Zurich uses people-centred implementation programme to encourage IT professionals to consider people issues
People Management, 14 Sep 2006
Zurich Financial Services is piloting a new change management methodology across its IT function that, if successful, may be rolled out across the company.
The insurance group needed to engage IT staff after it decided to develop a new business model based on a matrix structure, rather than separate business units.
Zurich used a people-centred implementation programme from consultancy Changefirst to encourage IT professionals to consider the people issues and behaviours required for effective organisational transformation.
"When people in IT talk about implementation, they tend to focus on the technical solution," said Charlotte Trinler, head of organisational development for group IT at Zurich.
All IT programme managers took part in a five-day workshop on how to engage people.
Trinler said: "Before staff start to implement any transformation, employee questionnaires assess whether they have people involved in a given project with the required skills and level of commitment."
